Distylium Blue Cascade Shrubs

Description

An unusual evergreen, with blue-green foliage tinted with bronze. Distylium loves the sun but will grow in partial shade so is a useful shrub for the garden. A compact bushy shrub with maroon red petal-less flowers appear in early spring giving some colour in a dark time of the year.

Slow growing, Distylium are reasonably hardy but need shelter from cold winter winds. Beware cold late frosts as it can cause damage to the leaves.

Growing in a pot is often useful in colder areas as the pot can be moved to a protected position in winter

Position: Sheltered in full sun or partial shade.

Rate of Growth: Slow

Soil: Moist, acid or neutral, fertile soil.

Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. Requires shelter from cold winter winds

Flowering Period: March – April.

Flower Colour: Reddish-maroon

Habit: Small to medium sized, elegant, spreading shrub.
