Description
A round headed deciduous hardy tree. The oval leaves are red when young, becoming a deeper red and the purple as it ages. A mass of 5-petalled pale pink blossom in spring is an attractive contrast to the oval red leaves which turn purple as the tree ages. Small edible plum like fruit appear in mid to late summer. Weed and mulch in spring, and in winter only prune if necessary to clear dead or diseased wood or gently prune to restrict growth. They can also be used in hedging. Cherry Plums are easy to grow, prefer sun and fertile well drained soil avoiding over dry, clay or waterlogged area.
A decorative distinctive tree suitable for most gardens.
