Description
Amelanchier is a delightful deciduous tree for any garden and can be grown successfully in pots and planter. Fully hardy with a profusion of star-shaped white flowers in early summer and pretty flame-coloured leaves in autumn with edible black berries.
It likes sun or semi-shade and a well-drained soil not too dry preferably neutral to acid soil. Some weeding and mulching in spring will see you through to winter when you can prune to remove any dead or diseased wood and to shape growth. The flowers and fruit is helpful to bees, birds and wildlife.
