Although grown for their glorious coloured leaves, most acers have small insignificant flowers followed by 2-winged fruit.
Acers require sun or semi-shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Many acers produce their best autumn colour on neutral to acid soil but will grow happily in most well-drained soil.
