Fig, Ficus carica, Brown Turkey originated from Persia and was brought to Britain by the Romans A long lived self fertile tree with large sculptured leaves. It bears its fruit in late summer and autumn, figs are one of the most delicious of fruit.
Fig trees need sun and poor stony soil to bear fruit but will thrive most anywhere except in cold damp areas. They are best grown against a sunny wall but will do well in a pot. Suitable for most gardens.
Fig trees are steeped in history and are sacred to many cultures.
